My teacher, Bjarne, gave me an adjustment about balancing and it opened the door to many things.

– The exercise I was doing – balancing on one leg with the other leg in front of me, bent at an angle (in attitude).

–  He could see that I was in my head which leads me to struggle for the         balance.

– His solution was to look out into the room, not fixated on a spot, just be in the space.   He explained that when he went into a new theatre to dance he would go on the stage and ground himself in the fixtures of the theatre – the little  red light at the back, the exits signs etc. He would align his geometry  with the geometry of the theatre he was in.

– I understood what he meant and how relaxing it is to calmly be where I am, in the room. So challenging to repeat but a new goal. I could feel within myself a thread of worry that was part of my state of being that when brought into balancing brought uncertainly, and tension with it. Is this worry a result of being a student in a class? More likely, always with me and a habit that has embedded itself in the fiber of my being.

Well, that opened up an exploration of what it is to be in space. Just like our eyes are constantly adjusting their focal point and our feet are giving feedback to our bodies to balance us, our bodies are constantly getting feedback from the world around us. Because this sense ‘spatial awareness’ is not included in the commonly known five senses – touch, sight, hearing, seeing and tasting – we tend to be asleep about it but it is part of our operational package. A blind person is conscience of this innate sense and uses it as effortlessly as we use our eyes.

We are constantly sending out sensors to tell us where we are in space. That is why we can sit in a chair without looking at it, feel differently in a cathedral than we do in a baseball field or an elevator. There is nothing woo woo about this sense, it’s as important as any of the others for our basic functioning. I wonder if our lack of including it in the basic five senses that we teach all school children makes us so obsessed with how we are feeling/doing/thinking/behaving. It keeps us focused on self. We don’t bring to consciousness this skill that is the connective tissue to our world, to each other. It is this sense that reaches us out of ourselves while touch, sight, hearing, seeing and tasting are all contained within us.

I digress.

What I learned from that one correction was that I have a thread of worry/concern that I carry with me. When I am able to be free of it by doing what Bjarne recommended I feel calm and elated and present and free. And balancing is so easy.

I find this extremely difficult to do and the change will happen by building second on second. But the dance is in this adjustment,  the dance of my life.

As I wrote in my first Ballet blog, Edwige, introduced me to her Adult Ballet class and started me on my ballet journey.

How thrilled I was when I was sent a link to a lovely short film by Sarah Marquelle Kruger and Paul Antico about her beginning ballet at the age of 70.

It’s only four minutes long. Treat yourself.

There is a place in Death Valley called Amargosa, where Marta Becket refurbished an old Opera house. She painted her audience on the wall and danced there until she was 83. She lives out there still, rescuing burros and horses, she is 91. I know they have been having funding trouble and it seems her website is now down.

Here is a trailer to an Oscar winning movie that was made about her.

Stranded between Religion and Science

Teaching Science, teaches thinking through a system of demonstrable facts. This system can be quite shocking when applied to religion.  All sorts of mental gymnastics ensue when trying to fit the mythology of religion into a scientific structure. Trying to prove religion can often lead to launching logical thought off of unfounded premises giving the appearance that logic and reason are in the house.

This also happens with science. Much of science that is bandied around in the culture such as quantum physics and the big bang theory are just that theories, not facts. Yet absolute beliefs in the way that life works eg: the creating your own reality cults that have sprung from quantum theory are acting more like a religion than a science in many cases.

Religion comes from ancient texts that are finite. We watch science evolve before our very eyes and our belief systems adjust as we learn more. In our lifetime the shifts in perception that genetics alone has given us are breathtaking eg: all biological organisms carry DNA, all humans came out of Africa, and until recently our culture believed we were at the mercy of our genes alone and now we know that genes get turned on and off from external experiences. Imagine if we had stopped science at the point where we had learned we were at the mercy of our genes? That would be a religion in the making and a false one that would lead to limitations and prejudices.

But in our culture science is owned by corporations. Discovery not for it’s own sake but funded to be commodified. It too often carries the stamp ‘how much money can be made from this, what drugs can we develop from this new discovery, can this be a tool for war,’ not ‘who are we, what is the world?’.

What do we hang onto then? Why are so many taking medications for this plague of depression and anxiety? Has leaving religion and embracing science, which is owned by the corporate sector, left people without basic human comfort. Because there is such a stigma on religion and science is a part of commerce and commerce about positioning, networking, winning, filling our minds with ‘how to get’ rather than ‘how to be’ we have become a nervous mess. What are we missing?

In their pure form outside their use to manipulate for gain, the feelings of faith, patience, kindness, comfort, generosity, empathy, love, grace, peace and wonder, are there for us to have.  They offer us nothing except the experience themselves – the reward of patience is patience. Though we often associate them with religion they were not invented by religion but are states innately available to all that have been given names and context through culture and religion. Turning away from religion and into a cynical society focused on gain have we left behind those states of being because they can’t push our agenda forward and are associated with dead religions?

Certainly this planet goes on and on despite what religion is in vogue, what government is in power, what is being taught in schools. Whatever we discover about the macro world, the micro world or our inner world we are all just riding on planet earth with our feelings of love, peace and wonder available for our pleasure, for their own sakes. Lucky us, at least we have that.

Science is always on the move and requires us to remain fluid. It is only limited by our questions. It is not an absolute and never can be as questions are infinite. That makes Science an Art. Let’s not treat it like a religion or only for the sake of the market.

Reclaim your birthright of faith, hope, peace and love. Do it with Art – poetry, painting, singing, dancing and science. That’s what Art is there for.

Arts in school? Yes but for their own sake not to please a parent, win a prize or groom a child for the marketplace but to allow them to remember their nature and to stir kindness and generosity in with their school work. Art is medicine.

Anxiety, our ancestors and human development.

You, a human being, followed a brilliant developmental plan to get to where you are, just like a carrot or a mouse did. There are rhythmic time frames from conception onward designed to bloom a human.

In utero, the biological form is prepared so that when the fetus emerges from the female body it can take its first breath, become animated and continue being alive until it’s last breath.

* this alone is worth pondering, if you have ever had the fortune to see a baby being born or a person die – breathing vs not breathing is about as astounding as it gets – better even than Cirque du Soliel!

In a way you are your own ancestor – your body is the result of a long chain of bodies that survived and bred before you – your ideas about life are hand me downs from ages past bumping up against the emerging you. So….

…gird thy loins to raise your rooftop as your own personal evolution is a daunting task and it would be easier to grow a beak.

As babies and children we learn through movement, play and mimicry. A child is not capable of true thinking and abstract thought until it has the brain structure to so do. A toaster is not an oven! Our culture is so enamoured by thinking that we see a roast when there is only toast!

Thinking is designed to be in service to our awareness and inspiration! Cut off from inspiration, thinking has little energy as it clunkers around aimlessly, shifting thought centres. It’s got to do something while it waits at the curb for it’s driver! Waiting can cause much anxiety as it’s an untaught art!

Screen Shot 2014-02-08 at 10.17.19 AM

When we realized how bad exhaust fumes from automobiles were for the air we breath, why didn’t we take that as an inspiring challenge! Why the resistance!

Old thoughts that we picked up from our ancestors are sitting on the throne! Only because we are not schooled in our biological truth! If we followed inspiration we would re-think our thinking and renew ourselves! And be ourselves!

No matter what age you are, inspiration is food just waiting for you to sit down and feast! This is what you are really hungry for! This is the natural way of evolution and human development, open to all! Young, old, rich, poor, sick, healthy!

That means you! Get to it, we all need you!

Invite in your inspiration and  re-think everything!

SciFi Porn about your consciousness.

Consciousness can be described as ‘the quality or state of being aware of something’. It is perhaps best know by the feeling of ‘coming to consciousness’ when waking each morning.  Everyone has their own personal relationship to their consciousness and thanks to Freud and his cohorts we also have an understanding of what is called our unconscious – though the definition implies that we can’t be conscious of this state we regularly bring the unconscious to the conscious when a memory comes to us or getting an idea ‘out of the blue”.

bandw

Becoming aware of our unconscious has been a major step forward in human evolution. Change of unconscious patterns, though hard won after the imprinting of childhood, has become a normal part of human striving and has changed the way we look at ourselves and others.

So where does consciousness go from here. What is the next evolutionary step? At some point in the future we will look back at how we are today and try to imagine how it was to be so primitive.

Could it be that this struggle we are currently in to evolve, by understanding and overriding our hidden agendas, might lead us to a state of being that is aware of our unconscious urges and impulses at all times? So that our natural state has us poised at the cusp of consciousness like a glass bottom boat enabling us to choose moment to moment as opposed to being compelled by the mystery of our own selves?

What is possible, what becomes science, begins with your imagination.

Stop trying to be a Hero!

And stop raising children to be Hero’s!

Let’s raise them to be mothers and fathers instead!

‘Mother’ and ‘Father’ the verb!

To mother, to father.

Not to save the world but to take care of it!

Not bunches of punches but listening!

Imagine! Industry being run with the spirit of taking care of everyone and yes that means nap and snack every day!

Government leaders who were mothers and fathers first would rethink sending children off to go kill other children! Ce ne pas possible!

Everyday, mothers and fathers suck it up, get over it, accept and move on, dig deep, go beyond, rise above, figure it out, push to the limit, push some more, invent a way, make it happen, pull it off, hope for the best, stand up, hold out, hold on, try again, never give up, embrace, hold, struggle. Why?

Screen Shot 2013-12-04 at 1.40.39 PM

 Because love trains them.

Too corny? Not ironic enough? Not ‘winning’?

Not to be rude but you are here because nobody managed to kill you. However crap you feel your childhood was I bet there were more ‘heroic’ moments in caring for you than in all the super hero stories ever told.

Mothering and Fathering are an attitude, a point of view, a perception. They are not gender or age specific and can be applied to anything and anyone. They are part of your basic package in the art of being human. They are probably the reason why you like all those cat pictures. They offer; being bigger than your circumstance, including all, accepting things as they are, patience, laughter, grit, gratitude and the most nurturing sets of eggs and balls you will ever encounter.

Screen Shot 2013-12-04 at 2.16.38 PM

Isn’t that enough?

* This post has nothing to do with the fact that there are almost no female super heroes and hardly anyone ever even says Heroine.

It’s time to take a look at blood.

You are reading this partly because your blood is rushing around inside you making trillions of life creating exchanges that your mere mind cannot begin to comprehend.

Makes you wonder why we listen to our mind at all!

Our ancestors puzzled over blood. If someone got cut and too much of this substance leaked out the person would die. When blood stopped coming to a woman for several moons a baby would grow in her.

It’s blood that makes life! Blood staying in a woman is what makes a human! Blood is the juice that creates life!

Now this was a reasonable thing to surmise when sex was a function like eating and crapping, just part of the rhythm of life.

Male circumcision began as a rite to give the pubescent male the power of blood in his nether regions. This mimicked the blood that came to a young woman when her body began to menstruate, the male emulating this ‘magical’ and life creating body change in order to gain power over life.

This view of menstrual blood led to the hope that sacrificing an animal, it’s blood dedicated to some spirit/god/power, would grant wishes. (no judgement)

The bible reads like an endless hack and whack of some lovely farm animals and often people as well. eg: to get rid of leprosy: sacrifice a ram and two sheep, have their entrails read by the priest and their blood wiped on your right side. Rivers of blood flowed in the temples and on alters worldwide.

People, get a grip, it’s just a menstrual cycle!

The next evolutionary Aha! was when someone realized that it wasn’t blood but semen that created life. I wish I could say this was an improvement but alas, no.  Now that men could claim ownership of a child, they wanted to make sure that the child was theirs and began controlling female sexual freedom.

Nothing tampers a woman’s sex drive more than seeing her besties’ head get chopped off for having a child while their husband was at war.

Screen Shot 2013-11-09 at 10.04.36 AM

Give menstruation a break!

Menstruation is the sign of a healthy body. ‘PMS’ is a sign that you need to improve some aspect of your health – unless you think you were designed to go crabbing around, getting all weepy and irrational. This myth gets used to deny women responsible jobs and dismiss viable and needed discussions.

Don’t take pills to stop your flow! The world could learn from the rhythm of the cycle of creation you carry – it’s exhausted from trying to be run like a machine!

This in no way means you should be waving your tampons in peoples faces! Absolument pas! Menstruation is not a sport!

Ride that rhythm ladies! It’s what life requires!

Screen Shot 2013-11-09 at 10.00.32 AM

Eat more veggies! Get sound sleep! Hydrate! Listen to your body!

It’s trying to love you!

Let’s take a look at the female ego.

It’s very popular to not have an ego these days. The ego gets a very bad rap and many people feel it is the root of many problems. – egotistical, full of yourself – there are even classes on how to get rid of your ego.

Well, Ladies, here at the PinkyLuxSchool we want you to do no such thing! The female ego hasn’t even had a proper debutantes ball into society yet and it becomes popular not to have one.

We must bring into full fashion the true ‘Female Identity’ and let the world get a load of how innately intelligent and wisely kind women are.

The first to realize this of course will be you!

ladyonhorse

If you want to know what the world thinks of us go watch a Romantic Comedy!

It’s time to bring out your real Ego!!!

Start identifying with the vehicle you are cruising around in – the greatest creative collection of protoplasm the world has ever known. No more whining about your menstrual cycle and how someone doesn’t understand how to love you.

You have bigger fish to fry.

Ego – the part of a person that is conscious and thinks; the self

I know it has been tough what with the Barbie doll as an ideal and living in a world that has been built in thought word and deed by the hard work of the male of our species.

Wait a minute!

Every one of those males was grown in the female body! Nice work!

It is the female body that is the beginning of all creation!

What kind of world would have been created if the female of our species had been raised to create the world? If culture had listened to the harmony and rhythm of the womb from which they came from to expand our world?  What lives would we be living?

The world we live in was certainly inspired by the male creative organ what with the shooting of guns being so popular along with the rushing around the world marking everyone else’s territory with DNA.

Add your true female ego to the mix! Be ‘full of yourself’!

Your Imagination…

….is it for you or against you.

First let’s see if you have an imagintation.  As with all invisible things eg. the wind, love,  the undercarriage, it’s best to put yourself through a test to prove the invisible exists. Until there is a machine that can measure imagination we can use the following experiment as a determiner.

Imagine these things;

A tiny horse climbing up a spider web to a spaceship.

A whirling dervish on the end of your toe.

Running naked in the woods while being chased by a squirrel.

Wasn’t that easy! Bam. Proof.

You have an imagination!

We have the ability to imagine much like we have the ability to think. It’s part of every humans tool kit. Your imagination is like water and is always looking to emerge and engage. You’d be surprised how much of your thinking is actually your imagination at work. Work? Imagination feels more like play.

All your wondering about how you are going to spend your evenings, or planning a trip or wondering how to love is your imagination at play.

Your imagination is not like your body that gets complainy and wants to rest. In fact it comes more alive when you rest, fanasies are it’s playground, it’s tireless!

Hold on!

Your imagintion can also imagine that a plane might crash into your house any second or that a little rash on your elbow is flesh eating bacteria or that you’re not good enough to even get out of bed or that you should be a princess with your own castle.

Screen Shot 2013-10-29 at 10.12.32 AM

You’re imagination just wants to play and it doesn’t care what it plays at. It can play at sad face just as well as happy face.

So when your imagination is clowning around to the point where you feel inharmonious with yourself, do not fret…

There’s a cure for sad/delusional/critical imagining. That cure is

ART

Give your hungry imagination a playground. Sing a song, play an instrument, dance a jig, paint a picture, write a poem, act like a kook.

Why Art?  eg. when painting you move the paint on the paper and it moves you to listen for what to do next, you are engaged in a relationship of your own making. The need of the activity controls the rhythm, which is calming. It’s a kind of loving relationship without the jealousy and power issues. Art tames our imagination.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if human relationships were like painting a picture? If life was an art? If Art was taught in our schools?

Surprise – holding a baby is an Art.

babyinbqsket

…you were once a baby.
